Iridium

Iridium is unique as it is the only satellite operator providing a truly global service, extending from pole to pole.  This service is provided by a constellation of 66 satellites in low earth orbit. They operate in such a manner that at least one satellite is always visible, no matter what your location.

The Iridium services include broadband data, voice as well as tracking and low bandwidth solutions.

Iridium Pilot

Powered by the Iridium OpenPort broadband service, the Iridium Pilot offers voice and broadband data communications priced to fit any budget. Connected to the world’s only truly global commercial satellite network, it provides pole-to-pole coverage for ships at sea and works everywhere on the planet.

Installation of the Iridium Pilot is straight forward and the built-in firewall helps minimise airtime usage.

The Iridium Pilot’s three independent phone lines increase staff retention by helping to keep the crew in contact with their families. Its flexible and affordable prepaid options allow calling even at peak times.

OpenPort services include:

  • Three voice channels
  • Data (configurable 9.6 – 134kbps)

Voice & Data

The compact antenna has no moving parts and is encased in glass-enforced epoxy to provide a highly weather resistant unit. The main transceiver unit supports the connection of up to four handsets as well as providing a serial connection to a PC for data transfer.

Additionally, through the Iridium Tracking System, the SAILOR SC4000 Iridium can deliver GPS positions or be tracked at any time within regular intervals configured on ship or from shore – ideal for fleet tracking and improving vessel efficiency.

When used with the Sailor H4122 the unit meets all requirements of Ship Security Alert Specification (SSAS) SOLAS XI-2/6, including GPS tracking.

SC4000 Services Include:

  • Voice Data (2.4kbps or 10kbps compressed)
  • SMS (via PC application)
  • SSAS compatible (requires Sailor H4122 SSAS kit).
